We are well into March 2026! I don’t know about you, but my eyes are itching, I am sneezing, my head is in a fog, and I would love to be outside in my garden, but I longingly look out my window and see blooms everywhere and my car is covered in a yellow fuzz!
We often think of SPRING as a time to clean away all those winter blues, cobwebs, wash windows from the winter’s harshness, and when we survey what is before our eyes inside our homes we look like the woman in the image above. We begin to feel like a football linebacker ready to jump off the line and tackle the mess before us.
BUT, before we tackle what is before our eyes, let’s examine what needs cleaning between our ears!
I may be time to weed and pull out the roots of some things which have been growing in our brains these past few months since the holidays and celebrations of 2025.
Foggy brains have a tough time focusing and making organized thoughts that lead to productive days and nights. Where do you start? Here’s a list of some things you may want to explore:

- My limiting beliefs – this means you may believe something about someone or something that in fact has no truth. When these come into your mind, ask yourself: “Is this true? How do I know this is true? Who said this or where did I read this and took up the belief it was true without examination?”
- Half Truths – This is a big one! Our enemy, Satan is an expert as setting this trap for all of us. He takes what is God’s truth and tweaks it ever so slightly into a lie and we grab on to the lie part thinking it is God’s truth.
- Down Right Lies – We often believe these because we simply do not want to accept God’s truth. Social media, Influencers and AI have made it almost impossible to distinguish truth from lies. They are packaged so beautifully, we want to eat them up.
- Hearsay – Wow, this is a big one. I have been duped by this one many times. For example, we may follow a series on a platform and want to know “what happens next!” Then the next thing you know, we are scrolling on our phones and what do you know that very questions is suddenly there with a totally false answer! Now that is cunning in a whole new way.
How? How Janice? How? Well, when you open your eyes each morning, do you have your phone either in your hand or under your pillow, right there to grab? That’s an addiction and YOU ARE ADDICTED!
You essentially have allowed that small device to be your “god.” You worship your little “god.” It is more important than anything or anyone in your life! I hear some protesting going on as you read this! You know it is true; you are just not willing to admit that you have an addiction.
Ask yourself, WHY is it so important to know what is going on in someone else’s life or elsewhere? Do you believe that other entity on your phone even knows who you are or cares what you do, think, or follow them? NO!
Let’s try a RAICAL IDEA, are you willing?
- Tonight, leave your phone charging on the kitchen counter and go to bed.
- Resist the pull to go “check just once more.”
- As you climb into bed, close your eyes and thank God for one thing that you were blessed with today. [like, blue skies, noticing flowering trees, no heavy traffic on the way home, children miraculously ate dinner, bathed and went to bed.]
- Upon waking, do this, pray and ask God: “Lord what do you want me to do for your kingdom today?” Then wait silently, for God to impress upon your mind what He wants you to do. This I know for sure, His List of 1, 2, or 3 things will yield more than your list of 10 things. When the day ends if you have followed His lead, you will accomplish so much and you will feel so great!
When do you spend time with God? Reading your Bible, Journaling, Praying, doing a devotional, working on a small group study lesson, praying with your spouse and children, all of these are “God Honoring” habits that will break your addiction when you begin to put GOD first in all things.
Today in our global society, we “romanticize” our need to be “self-sufficient, have all the answers, know how and where to go to find the answers to questions, stand on our own two feet, to be an island who needs no one else.” This is not a healthy mindset. God made us to be in community, to be supported and loved by those around us, not on our technology which is and “inanimate, impersonal object.”
Do you wish you had this look on your face at the end of your day?

Versus this

You can and it will take practice. Do not give up! Life is not easy. It was never meant to be easy. What makes it easier is to stay within the boundaries God has given us. Do you know what those boundaries are? If you do not, it is time to open that Bible on the shelf that is dusty and start reading it. Inside your Bible you will find the following:
- God’s Commandments
- God’s Promises
- God’s Precepts
- God’s Boundaries for daily living
- God’s “Dos”
- God’s “Don’ts”
- Prayers other people just like you have prayed for years.
These are written in plain language. God is a merciful, all-knowing forgiving God. He loves you and wants what is best for you just as you want the best for your children and you give them the same items listed above for living their lives.
