I don’t know about your neck of the woods, but over here on the East Coast it seems like hourly we are getting confessions about the private sexual escapades of those in public office. Is propriety and decency dead out there? The new governor of New York was sworn into office and not 6 hours later there was a press release about not only him but his wife both having affairs, at a time of trouble in their marriage. Both the swearing in and the affairs had to fight for the lead on the 5 pm news! Our local channels have reporters stationed at every doorway. Then another bombshell from the ex-governor of New Jersey and his wife and third party involved in something. Enough already! If this is all the news is about, thank you, I’ve got more important things to do in my life!
You know there is an old saying about "what you sow, so shall you reap". Let’s take a walk down memory lane shall we? In the springtime the farmer tills the soil and sows his seed. In due time the corp begins to sprout and grow and some time later is is ripe for the harvest. What are you sowing out there today?
Make no mistake you will reap what you sow. It may not be today, or next year, it may be 10 years down the road, but you will reap the harvest. What would happen if those in public office and those who are out there leading and being a headline grabber sowed good seeds. Seeds of learning, giving, community service, lifting up others, educating those who do not have the funds to educate themselves,
Each one of us really needs to stop and think about whom our decisions are impacting, will impact and to what end are we making the decisions we make. Our sowing impacts our friends, business colleagues, neighbors, spouses, children, future generations, our parents, and siblings and these decisions also throw a certain view of our culture, and our nation to the world. Decisions made in private, off shore, in the dark of night or noon day sun impact each and every one of us in some way. We are all in the same pond together and the ripple affects each molecule in the water or all of us.
How can your decisions be sown for the bountiful harvest? Think about that the next time you decide to feed a personal desire. Think about who will reap the harvest of your decision. When I hear someone answer to: "So, how’s it going?" and the person launches into a long "woe is me tale" I immediately think: "….so you are reaping the harvest that you planted….." If you are having marital trouble, seeds were sown long ago before today’s harvest. If you are having financial short falls, then the sowing of over extension was sown earlier in the months and years before today ever arrived. You follow don’t you?
Reaping the harvest doesn’t come from just today’s decisions. It is those lifetime of decisions which have been sown. I want to leave you with a positive note here. Just as the negative reaps negative, the positive sowing of seeds in the right fertile soil reap great harvest. There are signs of it every where and they do not make the nightly 6 O’clock news. Celebrate those for these are the true heroes of the day!
