Okay, so what are you going to do?

Now, I asked several questions in my December 2022 blog post, and I am wondering what your answers were. Let’s go over the six questions I did ask and see if you even ponder one of them.

Question #1:  What sites did you “unsubscribe from” before the new year started?

Question #2:  What people in your life did you quietly dismiss?

Question #3:  What books did you read in 2022?

Question #4:  Did you actually go into your computer or other device and change your password?

Question #5:  Did you “reset” yourself between Christmas and New Year?

Question #6:  What was your answer to my question: “What do I want this year in 2023?”

You know these are easy and, at the same time, hard questions to answer. Let’s see what you might have answered to these six questions. My answers are in “RED”; answers from some of my clients are in “BLUE.’

Question #1:  What sites did you “unsubscribe from” before the new year started?

{JB} I did what I recommended to you. If I bought something as a gift in 2022 and I remained and was also sold to another list, that would be a deal breaker for me, so I unsubscribed. Even for the good things, I unsubscribed. Did you know the FCC has a rule that you must be asked to have your information sold, and at the bottom of any solicitation to sell you or subscribe you to something, by law, the sender must give you an opportunity to “unsubscribe/do not sell my contact information?”

[Client]This is so hard for me. I have FOMO [fear of missing out] on something good.

[Client] Yes, I try to do this, but it just takes so much TIME!

[Client] Yes, I spend a certain amount of time and use a timer on my phone. When it goes off, I exit and move on. There will always be more tomorrow.

Question #2:  What people in your life did you quietly dismiss?

{JB} – Well, of course, I am not going to mention names! What I will reveal here is how I decide. This is a valuable piece of information you can use. A person in my life who adds value and is in alignment with my values remains. That is pretty straightforward, right? Not too many people I know use this as their measuring stick. This isn’t about being biased. It is about value alignment. If you are not aligned in your values, then you are being drained of energy, positivity, integrity, leadership, compassion, and a million more words here I could use.

[Client]  I can’t just get rid of friends and family I have known for years, even decades. That is just too drastic!

[Client] Well, I have tried, but like locusts, they seem to show up again and again. I must need coaching about “boundaries.”

[Client] Janice, I just see they are going in the wrong direction, and I care so much that I want to “fix” them.

Question #3:  What books did you read in 2022?

{JB} If you visit my website: www.janicebastanicoaching.com, there is a long list of what I am reading. I update it once or twice a year.

[Client] I just don’t have the time to read anything anymore.

[Client] My life is a constant series of distractions and demands from my jog, my spouse, my friends, and even my kids’ crazy schedule. I can barely make bathroom breaks; reading is not on my radar!

[Client] You know I have given up books and even audiobooks and am hooked on a podcast that meets my interests.

Question #4:  Did you actually go into your computer or other device and change your password?

{JB} Well, yes, for the most part. Most of the sites I frequent make me choose a new password in the new year, and now they are asking me for a second verification. Also, my online protection monitoring system keeps reminding me where I am vulnerable.

[Client] You know that is just a pass in the backside. I hate having to do it. However, there are so many scumbags out there just trolling to rip me off, so YES!

[Client] Yes, because if you get ripped off once, it takes forever to get things back to normal. It happened to me, and it was a long, painful learning experience!

Question #5:  Did you “reset” yourself between Christmas and New Year?

{Janice} YES!  Sometimes your body just says, that is enough already; I am shutting you DOWN. That’s what happened this December – January. I got a sinus infection, and I am still down. I still do not have my voice back as of this writing!

[Client] I am an “A-Type” person; there is no reset or downtime. There is too much out there to do and to conquer!

[Client] Yes, some years I do. When I don’t, I usually burn out or become a holy terror of being around.

Question #6:  What was your answer to my question: “What do I want this year in 2023?”

{JB} Well, you know I have always admired people I know who “search.”
For their “WORD” for a year. Frankly, I didn’t see what the value in this was until I read and then saw someone talk about it in a documentary. Then it came to me a WORD out of the blue – PEACE. What struck me was the way this selection came about. Perhaps more about that is in another blog post.

[Client] – Yes, I always choose a word, and then I don’t know what to do with it!

[Client] – Yes, some years and others I completely forget. If I do choose a word, I usually forget about it. You know, now that I think about it, it falls by the wayside like all those New Year’s Resolutions I usually make! HA!

Okay, so now what?

#1 If you value your online notifications and subscription, keep them

#2 If you value people who share your values, keep them.

#3 If you value knowledge, seek it out.

#4 -If you value online safety, choose to change your passwords.

#5 If you value clarity and focus, “reset” yourself.

#6 If you value having a “focus word,” give one to yourself.

You know, I know you think life is very hard. Maybe it is, and maybe it isn’t for people. If you know what you believe and why your hold that belief and your decision-making is founded on this, the answers to all those questions are pretty simple.

I would love to be a partner with you on your own journey. I will walk beside you and be your thinking partner. Ask yourself,

“Would having someone who will listen, hold my hand and help me make these hard decisions without judging me be something I am looking for in 2023?”
