We are now in the last quarter of 2023; how have you faired this year? Don’t think about it, react. Are you frowning or smiling?
If we had the ability to take your professional temperature right now, what would it be?
If your temp is one, you are basically dead. If your temp is ten, then you are on fire and passionate about what you are doing. So where are you?
In business, a “postmortem” is often used to take the temperature of a business after an event or goal has been reached or missed.
Let’s think back to Q1 of 2023. Did you start with a bucket list of things you wanted to accomplish? Did you have goals, networking events, conferences, trips, sales quotas, followers, likes, new customers, articles you were going to write, speeches you wanted to write, maybe even a keynote you are hired to give, and deadlines laid out before you by each of the four quarters?
Sure, you did. That is a set of standard procedures in businesses.
Let me ask you another set of questions.
What made you burst out in laughter in 2023?
What made you sad and brought heartache in 2023? [aka What do you cry about?]
What makes you burst out in song? [What do you sing about?]
What do you dream about?

Did you know people do what people see. 89% of what we know is what we see, according to HBR.
As a leader, you must be intentional. That means you must commit yourself to finding promising young leaders, look for their capacity to discern, and take an active part in their leadership development.
You need to develop a program to develop new leaders.
What are some of the characteristics of an up-and-coming leader?
Who in your organization is an appreciable asset? This is a person who can be intentionally developed into a great leader.
Remember, growth is not automatic.
You must empower the new leaders you are developing.
Let them have the ball.
Set the stage for a successful run in an empowering environment. They must do it and coach them to be successful. There are five steps to bring up leaders.

- You do it, and I am with you.
- You do it.
- You do it with someone else with you.
